Rock vs. Sponge! I bought the pet hair sponge and this together. I bought them primarily to use on the bed linens (I cannot stand to sleep in cat hair-covered sheets), and the washer and dryer did very little to get them off.So I took one side of my pillowcase and used the rock first. It worked very well, getting even the ones that were stuck in the threads, though you obviously have to hold the fabric taut for it to work its best, and since you only have one hand free this can be difficult. I would imagine this would be true of any loose fabric you used it on. I had to pull the hair from the rock at the end. This is hard to do as I felt like I was going to scratch my fingernails on its rough surface and it didn’t clump together well. But considering how much long white cat hair was on the pillowcase, I didn’t feel that this was unreasonable. After all, it’s not a vacuum and the hair is going to go somewhere. I wouldn’t use this on your clothes or grandmother’s quilt – I did get a little bit of blue lint with the hair. I sort of expected this. This will eventually shorten the life of your fabric. It wasn’t much, though, and my linens were pretty cheap, so it wouldn’t be much of a loss anyway for me. Maybe better sheets would hold up better. I dunno.I tried the sponge on the other side. Surprisingly, the sponge pulled off just as much lint as the rock. It pulled harder than the rock as I swiped it over the fabric, making it harder to hold it taut enough. It was also bigger and a little unwieldy for my little hands. I had to stop and clean it just as much, but I didn’t feel like I was going to gnaw at my nails doing it.Finally, I laid out my sheet for the real test. This is when the rock outshined the sponge definitively. I started with the sponge, but after a minute of frustration I abandoned it for the rock. Frustration gone. It still took about ten minutes to do the whole sheet (front and back), but I have king-size sheets.I guess the verdict is that the rock is a little bit rougher on the material, but it works better than the sponge for me. I would use the sponge on surfaces that needed softer care, though. It still worked better and is cheaper than the lint roller things.
Works great… but be careful near wood The only reason I dropped to 4 stars is that this product could actually damage certain fabrics if the user is not careful. I decided to use it only on our carpet because it starter to loosen up some of the couch’s fabric.It does a great job yes, but be very careful and test is before you go crazy all over your carpet or couch.This piece of stone will literally grind away wooden furniture or floors… so the main issue with this product is to be VERY careful! 🙂 Other than that, it works like a charm.
best yet I lost the last one I had and now have come across this one. Boy am I glad. The others were right about the roughness but this is the only thing I have been able to find to get the hair off whatever. My wife has a seeing eye dog and she is always with us so hair is part of our life. With this tool it makes life a little easier especially since my wife is emma’s master and I am Emma’s slave. I do the cleaning along with my daughter. I recommend this to everybody with 5 stars. you know the roughness of the tool just be careful when using it. know your tool and use it accordingly.
