The Oreck Commercial 550MC Orbiter floor machine is a floor buffer with an orbital drive and a finger control that is used for cleaning wood, vinyl, tile, and other hard floors and for dry-cleaning and loosening dirt from carpeted floors. The orbital drive oscillates the 12-inch brush or pad (sold separately) on the bottom at up to 175 revolutions per minute (RPM) to buff, clean, polish, sand, scrub, strip, or wax floors without making the machine twist or creating swirl marks or gouges. A 50-foot power cord enables the floor machine to cover a larger area without changing outlets than machines with shorter cords. The machine weighs 24 pounds and has a 13-inch-wide cleaning path and a 3/4-horsepower, 5.4-amp motor. Easy to handle and well made If you are considering this model vs. the ultra orbiter, keep in mind that the commercial 550MC unit also has a 1/2 horsepower motor despite the Amazon description which indicates that it has a 3/4 hp motor. This can be confirmed by contacting Oreck. It appears that the cord on the commercial model is longer but that the orbiter ultra has a longer warranty. The 550MC commercial model comes with a black mounting pad which is essential for use of accessories. Accessories are available at additional cost.The machine is a pleasure to use. It is easy to control and has plenty of power. I cleaned my vinyl floor and also a good portion of my wood dining room floor. I was satisfied with the results.The ultra model appears to be so similar to the commercial model that I think either would be fine. I did think I was getting a more powerful motor when I placed my order but there is little to go wrong with this device necessitating a 10 year warranty (applicable to the ultra unit) so I don’t regret my purchase. Oreck customer phone service is not outsourced and the people I spoke to were friendly, helpful and knowledgeable.I have yet to try to clean tile so I can’t comment on this. I have no plans to use the machine to clean carpet as I have a carpet cleaner which uses detergent.
Made our floors look like new. Our entire home is done with marble floors put in seven years ago. Lots of dog traffic. This easy to use product made them look new . Go for it.
Love love love IT! It’s quiet, it operates with a smooth effortless touch. It seems to have perfect balance. I have found that it cleans many more surfaces ( both inside and out,) than I ever thought when I ordered it. Just make sure that you order all the pads and brushes when you order the buffer. I didn’t and had to wait another week before I could use it. There are several ditterent kits for different surfaces I think I ordered 2 of everything so I would have it on hand if I needed it! I’m glad I did
