Surprising Things Come in Small Packages I live forever in the hopes of finding a deep cleaner that really meets my expectations, but after testing my neighbor’s huge, heavy Kirby years ago, my friend’s Bissell ProHeat, renting Rug Doctor machines, and owning a Hoover SteamVac, I’ve had plenty of experience with the different models and features. Nothing has met my expectations.I even worked as a teen for a neighbor who owned a Stanley Steemer type chain and know that they’re results weren’t great either. Cleaning up the equipment after they’d been through a house took hours. Deep cleaners end up being heavy, especially if you have more than one level in your home, awkward to use, difficult to clean out, and rarely effective. This is why I approached my test run of the Bissell ReadyClean with some skepticism. I’m actually surprised with the results.Pros:-This machine is as light as they come. At 12 pounds, I was amazed by how easy it was to move and carry.-I won’t say it put my carpets back to like-new condition, but they do look cleaner, especially around our pellet stove.–The clean up is amazingly simply. The brush head snaps out after flipping a tab, the soap/solution canister slides out with ease, the dirty water bucket lifts out, and the part where dirty solution travels into the dirty water bucket snaps out. Every part that got dirty was removable and rinsed in seconds.–The free Bissell solution that comes with the cleaner smells great. It’s not overly floral, something the men in my family hate, but it’s not chemically either. It’s just a nice, light, refreshing scent.–It’s quiet. This machine is far quieter than any other shampooer I’ve ever used.–One full soap/solution canister cleaned my 12 by 19 living room carpet and the 3 by 10 hallway. There was still room to spare in the dirty water bucket.Cons:–At one point, my cat became interested and I tripped on him. There’s a filter at the top of the dirty water bucket that has open vents. The water in the dirty bucket sloshed and came right out that top. The instructions do so to use very slow movements with it. Be careful once it nears the full line. It can slosh out.–Removing the dirty water bucket is simple. Don’t rely on the carrying handle though. I did the first time and that tips it sideways and the water pours out onto the clean floor from the filter/vent area. I suggest looking at where the drain hole and the filter/vent is so that you know the two areas where water will exit.–You do have to do some assembly. It doesn’t take long, but given the size of the box it came in and the size of the shampooer, I still don’t know why they just didn’t ship it fully assembled with the handle lowered.Over all, this is a pretty effective machine. I wouldn’t say it’s great on really dirty rugs. We shampoo our carpets every six months. We have Stainmaster carpets that have been less than impressive and the supposed 30-year warranty is useless. The cleaner did a pretty good job on them, but for someone who has gone years between cleanings, it might not do as much as you’d hope. If you’re using it for light cleaning, it’s going to impress you.
An ideal, simple and uncomplicated, money-saving cleaning helper I’ve had a previous deep cleaner, but it was cumbersome, difficult to operate and maintain, and just not what I, a 78 year old apartment dweller, felt comfortable with.I just received this today and was first delighted to find it extremely easy to assemble. This is saying a lot because I more often than not have difficulties with “easy-to-assemble” items. I had one very minor difficulty with getting one screw in the proper place, but corrected that easily, so that wasn’t enough to knock off a star.Operating it was a piece of cake with the help of the easily understood instructions. And while I’m admittedly a slob when it comes to getting things clean, I did a fine job on the carpet including eradicating a couple of old spill stains.I admitted my age in the first paragraph because I believe it’s very important to indicate that even a guy my age can handle this light weight equipment with ease.So I’m more than highly pleased with this item and doubt that anything at this price could do better. This sure beats paying a professional to do the job when I’m getting the apartment in spic and span shape for semi-annual apartment inspections.
