Great dry carpet cleaner I’ve used HOST for over 20 years, both professionally applied by a carpet cleaner and in this do-it-yourself version. It’s been great for my carpets and the benefit is it that it doesn’t leave your carpets wet.Recently I bought an expensive sisal rug. Sisal cannot be cleaned with any water as it will shrink and distort the shape as well as discolor. I’ve got two big dogs and HOST has been a miracle worker on this sisal rug. From dog urine to dog vomit this stuff has cleaned it all with no trace of what had happened left behind and no damage to the sisal. I will always have a tub of HOST around for accidents!
Works great if used carefully My wife and I bought a beautiful sisal rug from Pottery Barn a couple of years ago. Unfortunately we have a cat that likes to run to this rug whenever she needs to throw up. Barf is a little tricky to clean up because it’s solid mixed with liquid and the solid parts get trapped in the fibers, so it’s a little harder to simply soak up with a white cloth. My first few mistakes left some light spots here and there, that’s because I was too aggressive with the brush that came included. My last attempt actually turned out pretty well. The cat did a huge barf and I was able to make it look like nothing had ever happened.Contrary to what the instructions tell you, on a Sisal rug you do not want to “brush” the rug at all otherwise you’ll get some slight discoloration. You want to carefully clean up as much as you can and try to soak up as much liquid as you can with a cloth without rubbing or brushing anything. Then put a good blob of the dry cleaning material directly over the spot and press it in with your thumb. Then I use the brush more like a hammer and tap the material into the rug with the bristles. Be generous as the liquid will soak to the top, which is a good thing. Wait a couple of hours and vacuum off the top layer and let whatever is left to dry for as long as needed. Do another vaccuum and use the brush to carefully clean out the remainder. With a little practice, this product will work wonders. The other thing that makes this product great is they give you a very generous amount. You won’t run out for quite a long time, unless you have a million pets – in which case I wouldn’t recommend buying nice rugs.
